In 1813, three years had passed since Alessandro Manzoni, together with his wife Enrichetta Blondel and his mother Giulia Beccaria, had returned to Milan after a five-year experience in Paris. The Manzoni family lived for almost two years in via S. Vito al Carrobbio, before moving to the house in via Brera, owned by the Beccaria family. Finally, on October 2, 1813 the Lombard writer bought a new house, then at number 1171 Via Morone. The owner Alberico De Felber sold it to him for one hundred and six thousand lire. Manzoni moved into the new house a few months later, starting a series of modernization works, including the remake of the facade in front of Piazza Belgioioso.
